Day 99: 2/27/19 - C Day: Evaluating Plot & Harry Potter Ch. 11

Good day 6th Graders,      
     Today we will continue unit 3, Critical Analysis & Evaluation of Fictional Texts by reading chapters 11 of Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets. We will also watch part 2 of the movie on Friday.

1. Write down your Homework
2. Take out your HW from chapter 10

Homework:
  • Read chapter 11
  • Complete Cornell Notes 
    • Essential Question: How does the story of Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets align with the Hero's Journey?
    • 8-10 Bullets
    • 3-4 Questions
    • 3-4 Sentence Summary

Activity #1
Ch. 10 Mix & Mingle
Standards:
RL6.1 - Cite Textual Evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text
RL6.3 - Describe how a particular story's plot unfolds in a series of events as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution
RL.6.7 Compare and contrast the experience of reading a story, to listening to or viewing a video of the text, including contrasting what you "see" and "hear" when reading the text to what you perceive when they listen or watch.

Directions:
  • Share your written responses with one partner at a time
  • Work to make any improvements 
  • Remember that each answer should be a complete sentence, using words from the question, and proper capitalization and punctuation

Directions:
  • Write summaries for any of the chapters you have not yet written summaries for.
  • Include:
    • A topic Sentence
    • Details - focused on the most important events
    • A reflective statement

    • Essential Question: How do the events in chapter 7 align with the hero's journey?
    • 8-10 bullets
    • 3-4 Questions: write a level 1, 2, & 3 question
    • 3-4 sentence summary
