Day #38 - 10/27/14 - Unit 2 Lesson 3 Part I


Good Morning 6th Graders,
         Today is a ‘C’ day, so we will go to Library and Technology. Make sure that you have all other materials you will need for Block 1, including your library book. Then take out your Review Sheet that is due today. I would like to collect it first thing this morning. Last pick up an Ipad for your Triad group and work on the P2P.

  • I can determine the main idea of a section of text from chapter 10 of The Lightning Thief.
  • I can use context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words in The Lightning Thief.

Activity #1: Read-Aloud
Finish Reading Chapter 10 of 
The Lightning Thief


  • Use the word catcher from Lesson 1 page 11
  • As we read write down any challenging words.
  • Write down the page number that goes with each word

Activity 2: Determine the Meaning 
of Unknown Words

  • With your triad group, select 3 words from your word catcher to complete the “Thinking Deeply about Vocabulary” graphic organizer on page 16.





















Activity #3  - Determine the Main Idea
Key Question: 
What did you learn from this passage?
What words from the text helped you?
What is the key idea that Rick Riordan is expressing on pages 155 - 156?


Homework: Do a first Read of Chapter 11  and complete your Book Notes.

Block 2 - Due Thursday October 30
Paragraph 1
1. Tell me the title and author 
2. Write the Gist
3. Write a brief summary

Paragraph 2
4. Describe the main character (What type of person is the main character?)
5. Make an Inference about the main character. Use evidence from the text to support your inference. 

Paragraph 3
6. Write a prediction about what you think might happen in the book.
7. Finish with a question or something that you wonder.
