Day 148: 5/12/17 - B Day: Typing Research Essays

Good day 6th Graders,      

       Today we will be going back to the computer lab to finish typing our research essays in preparation of the editing and revising stage of writing. Please make sure you have:

• Red Folder
• Agenda
• ELA Notebook

Homework:

• Finish Ch 11 of HP & the COS & complete your Lit Circle Job (Due Tues 5/16)
• Finish The Hero's Journey Act I Graphic Organizer

Activity #1
Writing a Research Essay

Standards:
RI6.7 - Integrate information presented in different media or formats to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.

RI6.8 - Trace & Evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by evidence from claims that are not.
W6.2 - Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content

Your Task: Type the first draft of your essay as a Microsoft word document.

1. Open a Microsoft word document
2. Begin by changing your font size to 14
3. Type in your proper heading

****Take a moment to 'Save As" *******
Title your document - Research Essay

4. Use the tab key to indent for the first paragraph.
5. Type your essay beginning with your introduction and ending with your conclusion.
6. Be sure to use the 'Tab' key to indent each paragraph.
7. Only use the 'enter key when you get to the end of a paragraph.
8. Be sure to use proper capitals, and punctuation
9. Save your document periodically and make sure you have saved it into your own folder
10. When you are done typing print 2 copy of your essay, and hand one in to me. We will be using your copy to edit and revise.

***Once you have done that you may work on the next chapter of Harry Potter or Work on the Hero's Journey Act I Graphic Organizer
