Day 120: 3/27/17 - D Day: Evaluating Short Answer & Essay Responses

Good day 6th Graders,      
        Today we will evaluate the practice we did to create written responses to short answer and essay state test questions. Please make sure you have:
  • Red Folder & Agenda
  • ELA Notebook
  • Independent Reading book

Evaluating Short Answer & Essay Responses
Standards
W6.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content
W6.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
W6.5 With guidance & support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed

Writing Rubrics
Key Question: How will my writing be evaluated on the New York State Common Core Test?

The 2 Point Rubric: 
Used on all short answer written responses
The 4 Point Rubric: 
Used on all essay written responses

Your task: Collaborate with reading partners to analyze and evaluate your responses from the passages

Directions:
  • With your partners use the 4 C's of 21st Century Learning to collaborate, analyze, and evaluate your responses
  • Compare your answers. Discuss each response, including the positives & the negatives.
  • For the short answer responses give each person a score from 0 - 2. (Use the 2 point rubric to guide your thinking)
  • For the essay question give each response a score from 0 - 4. (Use the 4 point rubric to guide your thinking)
Homework:
  • Bring in an independent reading book
