Day 107: 3/6/17 - A Day: Drafting a Persuasive Essay - Typing drafts to Prepare them for Editing & Revising

Good day 6th Graders,      
       As we wrap up our Critical Analysis & Evaluation of Informational Texts we will be going to the computer lab to finish typing our persuasive speeches in preparation of the editing and revising stage of writing. Please make sure you have:
  • Red Folder
  • Agenda
  • ELA Notebook
  • Independent Reading book

Do Now: 
1. Sharpen Your Pencils
2. Fill out your Agenda with tonight's Homework
Homework:
  • Read 20 - 30  minutes each day
Writing a Persuasive Essay

Standards
RI6.8 - Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by reasons and evidence from claims that are not.

W6.1 Write arguments to support claims with clear and relevant evidence.
a. Introduce a claim & organize the reasons and evidence clearly.
b. Support your claim using credible sources and demonstrate understanding of the topic.
c. Use words, phrases, and clauses to clarify the relationships among claims and reasons.
d. establish and maintain a formal style.
e. Provide a concluding statement or section that follows from the argument presented.

Your Task: Type the first draft of your essay as a Microsoft word document.

1. Open a Microsoft word document
2. Begin by changing your font size to 14
3. Type in your proper heading

****Take a moment to 'Save As" *******
Title your document - Persuasive Essay

4. Use the tab key to indent for the first paragraph.
5. Type your essay beginning with your introduction and ending with your conclusion.
6. Be sure to use the 'Tab' key to indent each paragraph.
7. Only use the 'enter key when you get to the end of a paragraph.
8. Be sure to use proper capitals, and punctuation
9. Save your document periodically and make sure you have saved it into your own folder
10. When you are done typing print 1 copy of your essay. We will be using this copy to edit and revise.

***If you finish early, please proof read your essay.***

You may then read from your independent reading book.
