        Today we will practice making inferences, and creating written responses to short answer state test questions. Please make sure you have:

Writing Rubrics

The 2 Point Rubric: 

Used on all short answer written responses

The 4 Point Rubric: 

Used on all essay written responses

Your Task: Read the passages and respond in writing to the short answer questions.

Strategies for writing your Essay:
1. Use your planning page
2. Underline key parts of the question so you understand exactly what you are being asked to do.
3. Choose how many paragraphs you will need to answer the question fully
4. Create an outline - plan what will go in each paragraph
**Remember - each paragraph should consist of an:

• Intro sentence
• answer to the specific question
• evidence & details from the text
• an explanation of how your evidence supports your answer

Tips to do your best

• Preview questions
• Read Carefully
• Take your time
• Go back into the text
• Underline your evidence
• Review your responses after you have written them
• Make sure you use proper capitals, grammar, and punctuation

***When you are done please hand in your work and pick up your homework of the black stool.

***If everybody finishes we will work with partners to collaborate about our responses.

Your task: Collaborate with a reading partner to analyze and evaluate your responses from the passage about The Disappearing Ship.

Directions:

• With your partner use the 4 C's of 21st Century Learning to collaborate, analyze, and evaluate your responses
• Compare your answers. If your answers differ, discuss the evidence from the text that supports your reasoning.
• Go back in the text and underline evidence that supports your thinking.
• Number the evidence when you find it.
• You may change and add to your responses
