Day #139 - 5/1/15 - Unit 4 Lesson 1: Ch1, Man vs. Nature - Intro to Frightful's Mountain

Good Morning Rebels, 
          I hope you all had a good day yesterday while I was out. Today is an ‘E’ day so we will go to Art.  We will also begin our new novel titled Frightful's Mountain by Jean Craighead George. A central them throughout this book is how man and nature interact. Think about how we interact with the natural world. Remember to order your lunch, sharpen your pencils, pick up an Ipad, and then work on the Point to Ponder.

How do you feel?
I can formulate an opinion about a topic pertaining to how man and nature interact, and support my opinion within a group of my peers.

Directions: Listen to each statement and decide whether you agree or disagree.

Directions:
With your group members, go to the link above and read about Jean Craighead George. Use your Cornell Note recording sheet to write down important information that you learn while reading. You will be responsible for writing 4-5 facts.


Activity #3
Read the Forward by Robert F. Kennedy
I can read the forward of the novel Frighful's Mountain in order to learn about the author and her purpose for writing the story.

Key Questions:
What did you learn about Jean Craighead George from reading the forward?

How did Jean Craighead George inspire Robert F. Kennedy Jr.?

What were the important vocabulary words in the forward, and can you determine their meaning from the context?
