Day 135: 4/25/17 - D Day: Ch 5 Lit. Circle & The Hero's Journey

Good day 6th Graders,      
        Today we will get together with our Literature Circle groups and discuss chapter 4 & 5. We will be working on aligning Harry Potter with the Hero's Journey. Please make sure you have:
  • Red Folder & Agenda
  • ELA Notebook
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets

Do Now: 
1. Fill out your Agenda with tonight's Homework
2. Put your Lit Circle HW for Ch 5 on your desk
Homework:

  1. Read Chapter 6 of Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets. Complete your Lit Circle Job (Due Thurs 4/27)
  2. Work on annotating your research articles and completing the Tracing Arguments graphic Organizers
  3. Start collecting Materials for your research project

Rules for Lit Circle Discussions:
The Discussion Director is in charge. They facilitate the conversation.
Sharing goes in this order:
1. The summarizer
2. The Character Captain
3. The Passage Picker
4. The Connector
5. The Vocabulary Enricher
6. The Illustrator
7. The Discussion Director
* Be sure to use the 4 C's of 21st Century Learning
* Each member is expected to contribute to the discussion
* When you share, REMEMBER TO USE QUESTIONS TO ENGAGE THE REST OF YOUR GROUP MEMBERS! When you share it is your job to get the rest of the group involved. The best way to do this is to ask questions, like: what do you think, how did this make you feel, etc. Use open ended questions.

***At the end of your discussion the summarizers will do the 30 Second Recap Challenge.

Your task:
  • With a partner complete the graphic organizer aligning Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets with The Hero's Journey. 
  • Your goal for today is to fill in Act I. 
  • We will complete the 1st stage: "The Ordinary World" together.
