Day 134: 4/24/17 - C Day: Tracing Arguments & Planning Your Research Essay

Good day 6th Graders,      
        Welcome back. I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break. Today we will  read through our articles and begin tracing arguments for our research paper.  Please make sure you have:
  • Red Folder & Agenda
  • ELA Notebook
  • RESEARCH MATERIALS

Do Now: 
1. Fill out your Agenda with tonight's Homework
2. Pick up your articles & graphic organizers from your research folder
Homework:
  1. Finish Reading Ch. 5 of HP & the COS. Complete your Lit Circle Job (Due Tuesday 4/24/17)
  2. Work on reading & annotating your research articles. complete the Tracing Arguments Graphic Organizers 
  3. Collect Materials for your research project
    • Trifold Poster Board
    • Shoe Boxes
    • Decorative Duck Tape
    • Craft Sticks
    • Etc.

Research - Tracing Arguments
RI6.7 - Integrate information presented in different media or formats to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.
RI6.8 - Trace & Evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by evidence from claims that are not.

Task #1 - You Do
* Read through the 4 - 6 resources you found for your research essay.
Complete the "Tracing Arguments" graphic organizer to record important information for your research essay and project. 
*Read each article & use one graphic organizer per article. Be sure to record all the important information from your article onto the graphic organizer, including:

-Title of the article
-Name of the resource
-Author's Argument

-Author's Claim

-Quality of the resource

At the end of class I want you to put all of your research graphic organizers and articles that you are not taking home into your research folder in the bin.
