Day 130: 4/10/17 - D Day: Research Day 2 - Finding Primary & Secondary Sources

Good day 6th Graders,      
        Today we will  go to the lab to Continue our research. Please make sure you have:
  • Red Folder & Agenda
  • ELA Notebook
  • ALL RESEARCH MATERIALS

Do Now: 
1. Fill out your Agenda with tonight's Homework
2. Take out any of your Research Materials
Homework:
  • Finish Reading Ch. 3 of HP & the COS. Complete your Lit Circle Job (Due Tuesday 4/11/17)
  • Start collecting Materials for your research project
    • Trifold Poster Board
    • Shoe Boxes
    • Decorative Duck Tape
    • Craft Sticks
    • Etc.

Activity #1
Research
RI6.7 - Integrate information presented in different media or formats to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.
RI6.8 - Trace & Evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by evidence from claims that are not.

Task #1
Use the key words, phrases and questions to find 4 - 6 resources that you can use for your research project. You may use any of the search engines, including carrot2, listed on your Key words & Questions graphic organizer
-Remember 1 - 2 resources must be primary sources. 

-The other 3 - 4 resources can be secondary sources.




Next Step: 

* Once you have 4 - 6 resources you will use the "Tracing Arguments" graphic organizer or your "Cornell Notes" to record important information for your research essay and project. 
*Read each article & use one graphic organizer per article. Be sure to record all the important information from your article onto the graphic organizer, including:
-Title of the article
-Name of the resource
-Author's Argument
-Author's Claim
-Quality of the resource

At the end of class I want you to put all of your research graphic organizers and articles in to your research folder in the bin.
