Essential Question:
In the novel 'Bud, Not Buddy,' Bud gives us his rules to live by. In the poem 'If' Kipling gives his rules to live by. Why do you think people have Rules to live by?

Collaborative Small Group Review of Text Structure
- RI6.5 Analyze how a particular sentence, paragraph, or chapter fits into the overall structure of a text and contributes to the development of ideas
- SL6.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions with diverse partners on grade 6 topics, and issues, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly
Directions for Small Group Collaboration:
- Remember the 4 C's of 21st Century Learning
- Read each one of the passages
- Review your responses to each of the 4 questions for each passage.
- Be sure to discuss "why" your response was the correct one. (Refer to your notebooks)
- Discuss how you knew the correct answer.
- Complete 1 passage at a time and stay together as a group
- Many of the questions have more than one correct answer
Homework:
- Read for 20 - 30 minutes
RTI - A Day 1/18/17
Step 1 - Pick up an article. We will be choosing an article to do together as a whole group.
Step 2 - Read through your article to get a basic understanding of what the article is about.
Step 3 - Reread the article a 2nd time and use the Highlighting Strategy to identify the:
- Topic
- Topic Sentence
- Supporting Details
- Main Idea
Step 4 - Complete the Main Idea Graphic Organizer
***When you are done you will bring your work to me and we will conference about your article. I will be asking:
1. What is the topic of your article?
2. What is the topic sentence?
3. What is the Main Idea?
4. What supporting details led you to think that?
Step 5 - Write a summary
