Day #117 - 3/21/16 - Unit 3: Ch 19 - Bud, Not Buddy - Critical Analysis & Evaluation of Informational Texts & Poetry

Good Morning Sixth Graders,
          Today is a B day so we will go to Art. We will also go to the book fair at 9:00 this morning, and then share our poems. We will go over our written responses from chapter 18 and read chapter 19 of Bud, Not Buddy.

P2P: Give 1 & Get One
Take out your poem and practice reading it to yourself. Then share it with a friend. Give 1 piece of feedback, and get 1 piece of feedback to make your poem better. Make the revision, then find another friend to share your poem with. Repeat the process.

1. I can share my poetry with a group of my peers so I can receive feedback to improve my writing. 

Create a T-Chart in your reading response notebook to give feedback to the poets.

2. Get feedback and decide which 2 poems you want to edit, revise, and publish.

    • Step 1. Read the passage titled "Gold Fever"
    • Step 2. Complete chart explaining how the gold rush effected San Francisco.
    • Step 3. Explain why men thought it was worth the trouble to leave their homes and families to look for gold in California. Use details from the article to support your answer.
    • Step 4. Read the poem titled "A Gold Miner's Tale"
    • Step 5. Why does the speaker in "A Gold Miner's Tale" say he was "a wiser man" when he left Colorado? Use details from the poem to support your answer.
