Day 56: 11/30/17 - D Day: Description Text Structure & Ch 12 Course of Action

Good Morning 6th Graders,
          Today is a 'D" day. Check to see that you have everything you need for your morning classes.

  • Pick up a copy of the Description text structure graphic organizer
Homework: 
  • Read Chapter 12 & Complete the Course of Action Graphic Organizer

Activity #1
Text Structure - Description
Standards:
RI6.5 Analyze how a particular sentence, paragraph, chapter, or section fits into the overall structure of a text and contributes to the development of the ideas.

Directions:
Step 1: Review the 5 different forms of text structure.
Step 2: Review the Definition for Description text structure - The author provides several details of something to give the reader a mental picture
Step 3: Read the Descriptive article about Labrador Retrievers.
Step 4: Reread the article and underline the details 
Step 5: Write the topic and details in the graphic organizer
Step 6: Color Code, Cut, & Glue in the graphic organizer into your ELA Interactive Notebook


Activity #2
Read-a-loud Ch. 12 - Comparing Characters
Standards:
RL6.2 'Provide a summary of a text distinct from personal opinions'
RL6.3 'Describe how characters respond and change as the plot moves forward'

Part 1
Essential Questions for Chapter 11:
How are these characters alike?
How are these characters different?



Part 2
Essential Questions for Chapter 12:
What course of action would you take if you were Bud?

Directions:
As we read ch 12 think about what Bud course of action Bud takes in various situations. Then describe what course of action you would have taken if you were him.



RTI - D Day 11/30/17
Step 1 - Pick up a copy of the article about Healthy Eating 
Step 2 - Read through your article to get a basic understanding of what the article is about.
Step 3 - Reread the article a 2nd time and use the Highlighting Strategy to identify the:
  • Topic
  • Topic Sentence
  • Supporting Details
  • Main Idea

Step 4 - Complete the Main Idea Graphic Organizer
Step 5 - Draft a summary

***When you are done you will bring your work to me and we will conference about your article. I will be asking:
1. What is the topic of your article?
2. What is the topic sentence?
3. What is the Main Idea?
4. What supporting details led you to think that?

Enrichment Group:
Select an aspect of the Great depression to research.
