Activity #1
Identifying Main Idea & Evaluating Details in order to write a summary Quiz

Standards:
RI6.1 - Cite textual evidence(details) to support analysis of what the text says
RI6.2 - Determine the central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinion
RI6.3 Analyze in detail how a key idea is introduced, illustrated and elaborated in a text

Directions:
  • Read the article. You may highlight and annotate the article as you read.
  • Answer the 4 multiple choice questions
  • Write the main idea in the graphic organizer
  • Record one detail for each section of the article on the graphic organizer. Record the detail which you think pertains to the main idea and that you believe is most important.
  • Using the information from your graphic organizer, on loose leaf paper draft a 4 sentence summary of the article. Include the:

  1. Main idea
  2. and one detail from each section of the article

Read Aloud Chapter 9
Complete the Cause & Effect Graphic Organizer
Standards:
RL6.3 Describe how a particular story's plot unfolds in a series of events as well as how characters respond or change as the plot moves forward

Directions:
  • Read Chapter 9
  • Complete the cause and effect chart to explain the facts in chapter 9.
