Day #28 - 10/19/15 - Unit 1: Learning Stations - Guided Reading Begins: Character Profiles, Setting, and Point of View

Good Morning Sixth Graders,
          I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Today we will begin our guided reading books, and we'll be starting a new unit in social studies. Please make sure you have all your materials for ELA and Social Studies. Sharpen your pencils and order your lunch. Don't forget to check your mailbox each day! You all have mail to pick up.

Point to Ponder:  Mad Lib Monday. Grab a madlib to work on with a partner from your table group.

Activity #1

#1 Guided Reading (We do)
  • Character Profiles
  • Setting Graphic Organizer
  • Point of View
    #2 Independent Reading (You do)
    ***Block 1 - For the 1st Ind. Reading Group (Group #2 - Taken) I will be working with you to get you going today***
    ***Block 2 - For the 1st Ind. Reading Group (Group #2 - London Calling) you will be reading in a small group to start your book)***
    • Finish reading the assigned pages for your guided reading group.
    • Complete the graphic organizer for Characterization & Setting
    #3 Word Work (You do)
    • Use your Guided Reading book and  develop a list of vocabulary words
    • Use a dictionary to complete the Frayer model for 5 of your vocabulary words.
    #4 Work on Writing (You do)
    (Reading Response Section - Write in complete sentences)
    • Finish your Freak the Mighty Mini Essay
    • If you were Max, what would you do in his current situation?
    • What would you recommend Max do in his current situation?
    • If you were the author how would you develop the plot in chapter 19?
    #5 Computer (You do)
    • Log on to the our classroom webpage and go to the ELA blog
    • Create a new post. 
    • Type your response to the Work on Writing Questions
    When you are done with your post, read other students post and leave them a comment or question. 
    Comments may not be, "Nice Job" or "Good Job." See the Blogging sentence starters for proper ways to respond to other people's posts. 

    YOU MUST USE COMPLETE SENTENCES, CAPITALS AND PUNCTUATION!!!!!!!!!
