       This week we will continue unit 3, Critical Analysis & Evaluation of Fictional Texts.

2. Take out your homework from chapter 7

Homework:
  • Finish Reading Ch 8
  • Complete a Note taking strategy of your choice

Activity #1
Chapter 7 House Discussion
& best Question
Standards:
RL6.1 - Cite Textual Evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text
RL6.3 - Describe how a particular story's plot unfolds in a series of events as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution

Directions:
  • Share your notes from chapter 7 with the people at your house table.
  • Discuss what you believe to be the most important events from the chapter
  • Collaborate about any of the events you believe to be obstacles on Harry's Road of Trials/Rising Action
  • Share your questions, level 1, 2, & 3 questions
    • Discuss them as a small group
    • Pick the level 2 or 3 question that you  think will create the best whole group discussion

Activity #2
Evaluating Plot
  • To evaluate plot you will be using your notes to write a summary of each paragraph of the rising action.
  • Remember that a summary needs:
    • Intro Sentence
    • Details - only the most important
    • Reflection - Your final thoughts on the chapter
  • Today you will be working on Chapter 7

Activity #3
Read Aloud Chapter 8
Standards:

RL6.3 - Describe how a particular story's plot unfolds in a series of events as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution

Directions:
  • Complete a note taking strategy of your choice & record important information.
  • Focus on the events that help you prove Harry is a literary hero

Goal: To read fictional texts for enjoyment and discuss them with a group of our peers in order to improve our comprehension .

  • What do you know about the main character? How? 
  • What Predictions can you make?
  • What Inferences did you make based on today's reading?
