Day 58: 12/6/16 - C Day: IDEC Quiz on ch 4-6, Analyzing Setting in Ch 7

Good day 6th Graders,      
         Today we will be Continue unit 2 about Critical Analysis & Evaluation of Informational Texts. Please make sure you have:
  • Red Folder & Agenda
  • ELA Notebook

Activity #1
IDEC Quiz on Chapters 4 - 6
  • W6.1 Write arguments to support claims with clear responses and relevant evidence.
Directions:
Pick any 2 out of the 5 short answer questions. 
Write a response for each using the I, D, E, C format.
When you are done review your responses and make sure each one has:
1. an Introduction
2. Details - Your specific answer in your own words
3. Evidence - From the text
4. Conclusion - A Reflection, or final thought, on your answer

Activity #2
Review setting for Chapter 7
Analyze How Setting affects Mood
  • RL6.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text.
  • RL6.1 Cite textual evidence to support what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text
What words did you add to your word catcher. 

Activity #3
Read Aloud Chapter 8
Complete the Chronology of Events
  • RL6.2 Determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details. Provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions
Directions:
  • Read Chapter 8 
  • Make a Timeline of Events in chapter 8.
  • Select the 10 most important events and record them on your timeline. 
  • Use specific details
  • Put the events in your own words.
  • Write in complete sentences.
Homework: ( Due Thursday 12/8)
  • Finish Reading Chapter 8.
  • Complete the Chronology of Events Graphic Organizer 
  • Record at least 3 words from chapter 8 on your word catcher.
RTI - C Day 12/6/16

Step 1 - Pick up an article
Step 2 - Read through your article to get a basic understanding of what the article is about.
Step 3 - Reread the article a 2nd time and use the Highlighting Strategy to identify the:
  • Topic
  • Topic Sentence
  • Supporting Details
  • Main Idea

Step 4 - Complete the Main Idea Graphic Organizer
Step 5 - Complete the Quiz

***When you are done you will bring your work to me and we will conference about your article. I will be asking:
1. What is the topic of your article?
2. What is the topic sentence?
3. What is the Main Idea?
4. What supporting details led you to think that?
