Day 21: 10/4/16 - Ch 13 & 14 Freak the Mighty, the 4 Types of Conflict & Cornell Notes

Homeroom:       
         Today is an 'A' Day. Please don't forget to order your lunch and sharpen your pencils.
ELA,
          Make sure that you have your Agenda and your Freak the Mighty Book. Please give me your take home quiz. It will be graded. Then share your annotations from chapter 11 & 12 with people at your table. I will be coming around to check that your annotations are done.

Group 1
  • pg 63 What kind of place are the tenements? Describe them using evidence from the text?
  • pg 64 Freak doesn't wear his leg braces and he leaves his crutches at home when he goes on 'quests with Max. How does this show trust?
  • pg 65 How does the author paint a picture of Iggy and Loretta Lee?
Group 2
  • pg 66-67 What kind of people are Iggy and Loretta? What evidence can you use from the text to support your inference?
  • pg 68 - 70 Kevin finds out who Max's father is. How do you think this will affect his view/opinion of Max?
  • Pg 71 Both Kevin and Max are living without their fathers. How do you think this has affected their lives?

  • p. 73 How does Max feel about his father? What's your evidence?
  • p. 76 Analyze the events on page 76 when Max's classmates are calling him Names. Is this an example of Bullying? How do the students' actions and words demonstrate intolerance?

9/29 Conflict

There are 4 Types of Conflict

1. Man vs. Man (External)
  • A struggle, mental or physical, between two characters
  • usually between the Protagonist and an antogonist

2. Man vs. Nature (External)
  • A struggle between a character and mother nature
  • Mother nature = weather, animals, sickness, etc

3. Man vs. Society (External)
  • A struggle between a character & the laws or beliefs of a group
  • could involve poverty, politics, social norms, expectations, etc

4. Man vs. Self (Internal)
  • A struggle between a character and his feelings, conscience, or fear

Homework: Finish reading Chapter 13 & 14. Complete Cornell notes, include:
  • 6 - 8 annotations
  • 3 - 4 questions using your DOK Stems
  • and a summary
