Day #6 - 9/15/15 - Unit 1: Way's we Choose books, Genre, & Practice Identifying Theme

Good Morning Sixth Graders,
        Today is an ‘A’ Day so we will go to Phys. Ed. Don’t forget to enter the room quietly and check the whiteboard to make sure you have all your materials. Then sharpen your pencils and order your lunch.
         On a piece of scrap paper, please write a response to the “Point to Ponder" question.  When you are done, you may do some independent reading quietly at your seat.

Think back to our list of words describing Meanness. Now answer this question. 
HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED?

Erase Meanness
Meanness can take many forms.
What will be your legacy?
What do you want to become?
Would you want to be someone who is remembered poorly?
Meanness can have long lasting consequences.

 Why do people get bullied?

  • What did you see and notice about the kids in the video?
  • How were the young children different from the teenagers?
  • What were the students afraid of?
  • Why did the students change their mind about sharing their profiles in the end?
  • How do you want to be remembered?

Key Questions
  • On page 22 what does Max think of himself when he finds out Gwen is calling Gram?
  • On page 24 Max says, "He's not a poor boy. You should hear him talk. I think the rest of him is so small because his brain is so big,"
  • How does this quote add to your understanding of Max's  feelings and thoughts about Kevin?
  • At the very end of the chapter the author chooses to end with the having max say the words, "I'm happy" How do these two little words apply to the themes of friendship, acceptance, and tolerance.
