Day #94 - 2/10/15 - Mod 2A Unit 1 Lesson 8 Part II: Steve Jobs' Speech & Chapter 8 of Bud, Not Buddy

Good Morning Students, 
            I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!! Today is an ‘E’ day so you will go to Art. We will also be reading more of Steve Jobs' commencement speech and making connections between him and Bud. Please pick up an Ipad and answer today’s Poll question, then work on the Point to Ponder.

  1. I can get the gist of paragraphs 12-14 of the Steve Jobs Commencement Address.
  2. I can identify the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary from the context.

Go over Evidence Based Claims 
from paragraphs 6-8
Focusing Question = What message is Steve Jobs trying to give us in paragraphs 6-8?
Claim = You have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.

Activity #2

Steve Jobs Commencement Address paragraphs 9 - 14
As we read or listen we will be thinking about:
  • what is the gist of each paragraph
  • What is Steve Jobs message in paragraph 12 - 14 and how are his experiences of love and loss connected to Bud’s experiences.
 
    5:35 - 9:00

    Reread paragraphs 9-14 with your small group, then write the gist of paragraphs 12, 13, & 14. 

    How are Steve Jobs’ and Buds’s experiences of love and loss similar, and how are they different?


    Homework: 
    Read chapter 9 of Bud, Not Buddy 
    & complete Lesson 8 page 7

    5. Write a prediction about what you think might happen in the rest of the book.
    6. Finish with a question or something that you wonder.
