Day #54 - 11/30/15 - Unit 2: Using Depth of Knowledge Stems & Cornell Notes to align two texts

Good Morning Sixth Graders,
          I hope you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving. Today is a D day. We will go to Library. Please:
  • Sharpen your pencils
  • Order your lunch
  • Check your mailbox
  • Eat your breakfast

Point to Ponder: Use Scrap paper to make a sign about what you are Thankful for this year. Include a large, but simple illustration. Use this sentence starter: "I am thankful for..."


Learning Stations

#1 Guided Reading (We do)
Using Cornell Notes to align the main character from your guided reading book with the hero's journey.
  • Objective = Aligning Two Texts
  • Write an essential question
    • How does _________________ fit the pattern of the hero's journey, and what part of the hero's journey?
  • Use the depth of knowledge stems to write a level 1, 2, & 3 question before reading.
  • Write  notes while reading about main events and big ideas.
  • Focus on events that will help you answer the essential question.
    #2 Independent Reading (You do)
    • Read: Finish reading the assigned pages 
    • Build Vocabulary: Add words from your Guided Reading book to your list of vocabulary words
    #3 Word Work (You do)
    • Use the "World" textbook and lined paper to complete the 'Thinking about Vocabulary' #1-10, on page 60.
    • If you finish you may start a Frayer Model Poster for one of the words in your guided reading book
    #4 Work on Writing (You do)
    • Read Pages 128 - 133 in the "World" Textbook
      • Answer "Think about It" Questions pg 133 (#2, 3, & 5)
    #5 Computer - Open Ed

    Complete the guided notes

    Homework: Use your cornell notes to write a summary for todays reading from your Guided Reading Book. Be sure you focus on aligning your book with the hero's journey. Use evidence from both texts!!!
