Learning Stations
Activity #1: Guided Reading Posters
Act 1 Stage 1 - The Ordinary World
Work with the students in your guided reading group to create a poster answering the following question.
How does the main Character from your guided reading book not fit in to their ordinary world?
Begin by brainstorming all the ways your character doesn't fit in with their ordinary world.
Loot - March
Taken - Charity
Tangerine - Paul
London Calling - Martin
- ____Include the Name of stage for the Hero's Journey -"The Ordinary World"
- ____Include your characters name, and evidence from the text on your poster.
- ____Use complete sentences or bullets to write out the details.
- ____Include illustrations with labels.
- Write in LARGE PRINT
- Everything should be written neatly, and spelled correctly.
Get Creative and have fun illustrating this stage of the hero'r journey. You want want to illustrate a few of the scenes from the book to show how your character doesn't fit in.
#2 Pit Ponies
Step 1: Read the Poem "Pit Ponies to yourself
Step 2: Complete questions 8 - 14 independently
Step 3: Find a friend who you can share your responses with. If you have different answers, discuss the question and try to come to an agreement about the correct answer.
Step 4: Be prepared to discuss your responses with your table group, and then as a whole group.
