Day 7 - 9/21/20 - What are the Literary Elements and FTM Ch. 1

Good Morning 6th Graders,
          Please make sure you have everything you need. Today we will learn what the literary elements are, and we will begin reading Freak the Mighty

Do Now:
1. Write your homework in your agenda
2. Take out your permission slips so I an collect them
3. Take out your "Who are You" activity & cut out the shield.
4. Raise your hand so I can give you a piece of colored paper for your shield

Homework: 
  • Finish reading Ch 1
  • Complete the Reading Guide for Ch 1

And Now... Freak the Mighty Chapter 1


Prompt #1 - What does it mean to be a good friend? Explain in detail.

Prompt #2 - How should you treat people who are different from you? Explain your thinking.

Directions: 
Read chapter 1 of Freak the Mighty & complete the Reading Guide. Be sure to:
  • Write as detailed a response as you can on each part of the guide. 
  • Write neatly. 
  • Write in an appropriate size. 
  • Summary should be 4-5 sentences minimum.
  • Omit References to King Arthur section

RL6.1 - Making Inferences and using evidence to support your thinking
RL6.2 - Determine how a theme is conveyed through details, and provide a summary of a text

Reading Strategy - Annotating a Text
While you read it is important to annotate what you are reading. This will allow you to comprehend what you are reading and make more accurate inferences
  • Use the back of your reading guide to record important information or questions you have while reading. 
  • As you take notes begin to think about the literary elements especially figurative language, characterization, and setting.
