Day 151: 5/20/19 - C Day: Final Publication of Research Essays

Good day 6th Graders,      
       Today we will finish editing & revising our research essays so we can publish them, and begin our Learning Fair Projects.

Do Now: 
1. Fill out your Agenda with tonight's Homework
Homework:
  • Bring in the rest of your materials for your learning fair project
  • Make sure your lit circle job is done for chapter 16

Standards:
RI6.7 - Integrate information presented in different media or formats to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.
RI6.8 - Trace & Evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by evidence from claims that are not.
W6.2 - Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content


Your Task: Type the first draft of your essay as a Microsoft word document.

1. Open a Microsoft word document
2. Begin by changing your font size to 14
3. Type in your proper heading

****Take a moment to 'Save As" *******
Title your document - Research Essay

4. Use the tab key to indent for the first paragraph.
5. Type your essay beginning with your introduction and ending with your conclusion.
6. Be sure to use the 'Tab' key to indent each paragraph.
7. Only use the 'enter key when you get to the end of a paragraph.
8. Be sure to use proper capitals, and punctuation
9. Save your document periodically and make sure you have saved it into your own folder
10. When you are done typing print 2 copy of your essay, and hand one in to me. We will be using your copy to edit and revise.

Your Task: Use the Editing & Revising Checklist, along with your Research Essay Outline, to work with a writing partner to improve your writing.

***All Editing & Revising should be done on your printed copy. Then you will go back on to the computer and make the changes.

Step 1: Choose partner #1
Step 2: Use the checklists to evaluate your writing and make improvements (work with your partner to do this) ***Make sure you have used facts/evidence, and cited your source, at least 8 times. (2 sources per paragraph)
Step 3: Use the editing checklist to fix spelling, punctuation, grammar errors, Etc. (Work with your partner to do this)
Step 4: Choose a new partner and repeat this process
