Day 146: 5/13/19 - B Day: Typing Research Essays Day 3

Good day 6th Graders,      
       Today we will be using the computers to type our research essays in preparation of the editing and revising stage of writing. 
                        Thank you ,

Do Now: 
1. Fill out your Agenda with tonight's Homework
Homework:
  • Finish your lit circle job for chapter 11 & 12 (Due Tues. 5/14)
  • Work on your research essay
  • Bring in materials for Learning Fair Project
    • Tri-fold board
    • Decorative tape
    • Boxes
    • Craft Sticks
    • Etc.

Typing Your Research Essay

Standards:
RI6.7 - Integrate information presented in different media or formats to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.
RI6.8 - Trace & Evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by evidence from claims that are not.
W6.2 - Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content


Your Task: Type the first draft of your essay as a Microsoft word document.

**Before typing - You should make sure you have cited your sources in your research essay the same way you did in your persuasive essay. In your rough draft please underline the sentences where you included your resources. You should have used language like:
“According to ___________"
"research from ______________ shows”

1. Open a Microsoft word document
2. Begin by changing your font size to 14
3. Type in your proper heading

****Take a moment to 'Save As" *******
Title your document - Research Essay

4. Use the tab key to indent for the first paragraph.
5. Type your essay beginning with your introduction and ending with your conclusion.
6. Be sure to use the 'Tab' key to indent each paragraph.
7. Only use the 'enter key when you get to the end of a paragraph.
8. Be sure to use proper capitals, and punctuation
9. Save your document periodically and make sure you have saved it into your own folder
10. When you are done typing print 1 copy of your essay. We will be using this copy to edit and revise.

***We will be printing these essays, but if you want to work on your essay from home, you may want to copy/paste it into a Kidblog post.
