Day 92: 2/2/17 - A Day: Publishing Poetry

Good day 6th Graders,      
       As we continue unit 2 about Critical Analysis & Evaluation of Informational Texts we will be going to the lab today to work on typing our poems. Please make sure you have:
  • Red Folder
  • Agenda
  • ELA Notebook
  • Independent Reading book

Do Now: 
1. Make sure you have all your materials
2. Sharpen pencils
3. Fill out your Agenda with tonights Homework
Homework:

  • Finish Illustrating your poems if you didn't finish in class.
  • Finish your design for the cover
  • Practice reciting your poems for tomorrows poetry reading
  • Last Reminder to bring in treats for tomorrow's poetry reading. Bring them to my room in the morning.

Activity #1

Typing your poetry
  • W6.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience
  • W6.6 Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others; demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of three pages in a single sitting.

Directions:
  • Open a Microsoft word document
  • Type the title of your poem
  • Type the stanza's of your poem
  • Use return/enter to insert line breaks
  • Type "By (Your Name)" at the end of your poem.
  • Use the tools in word to select the font, font size,  spacing, and alignment.
  • Make sure your poem can fit on one page. See a teacher if you can't make it fit
  • Leave room for an illustration
  • Get your poem checked by a teacher prior to printing
When you finish print two copies of your poem. One goes to me, and you keep one for the poetry reading. 

You will then need to illustrate your poem that you gave to me. I will be using these to put in the anthology of poetry. Use colored pencils or crayons. ****NO MARKERS!!!****

Optional: If you want you can think of a design for the cover of our book of Poetry. Create a preliminary design on a piece of scrap paper. Then create a final copy on card stock paper. See me to get the card stock. We will be voting on the best design to put on the front cover and the back cover.

*You must put the words "Anthology of Poetry 2017" on the cover. Include your "Block #"

RTI - A Day 2/2/17
Step 1 - Pick up an article. We will be choosing an article to do together as a whole group.
Step 2 - Read through your article to get a basic understanding of what the article is about.
Step 3 - Reread the article a 2nd time and use the Highlighting and annotating Strategy.

Step 4 - Complete the Main Idea Graphic Organizer
***When you are done you will bring your work to me and we will conference about your article. I will be asking:
1. What is the topic of your article?
2. What is the topic sentence?
3. What is the Main Idea?
4. What supporting details led you to think that?

Step 5 - Write a summary
