Point to Ponder: Enjoy Madlib Monday. We will pick 2 - 3 stories to share with the whole class.

#1 Guided Reading (We do)
Using Cornell Notes to align the main character from your guided reading book with the hero's journey.
  • Objective = Aligning Two Texts
  • Write an essential question
  • Use the depth of knowledge stems to write a level 1, 2, & 3 question before reading.
  • Write notes about the main idea and key details while reading.

    The 8 Gifts of the Nile
    1. Read the Informational article about the gifts of the Nile.


    Now that you have read about the 8 Gifts of the Nile it is your job to plot them on a map.
    Step 1: Use the graphic organizer to record each of the gifts and write a brief summary.
    Create a symbol for each gift.
    1. Gift of Agriculture           

    2. Gift of Pastureland
    3. Gift of Fish & Game
    4. Gift of Drinking Water
    5. Gift of Papyrus
    6. Gift of Transportation & Trade
    7. Gift of Building Materials
    8. Gift of the Arts
    Step 2: Use pencil to draw your symbol on the map along the Nile river. Darken it with pen.
    Step 3: Label each symbol with Pen
    Step 4: Color ALL the water blue
    • Mediterranean Sea
    • Nile River
    • Gulf of Suez
    • Red Sea
    Step 5: Color the Fertile Soil around the Nile River Green.
    Step 6: Color the Dessert yellow.

    #4 Work on Writing (You do)
    • Create a plot line for the hero in your guided reading book
    • Label each part of your plot line with the matching stage of the Hero's Journey.
    #5 Computer - Open Ed or Publishing
    Open ED
    • Step 1: Under the LINKS tab, click on the open ed link
    • Step 2: Choose one of the activities to try or one of the videos to watch. 
    • Step 3: Be sure you complete each assignment to the best of your ability. Review your answers and work to raise your score to 100% Mastery.
    Essay
    When you are finished...
    • Proof read your own writing. 
    • Use the Revising checklist to make sure your introduction and conclusion have all the required parts. 
    • Get your writing checked by a teacher.
    • Print two copies. (ES400) 1 for the teacher and 1 for you to keep for a gallery walk we will do on Monday
    Last: Post your essay to Kidblog
    • Highlight your entire essay and "copy" it
    • Open a new post on our ELA Kidblog & create a new post
    • Give your entry a title. 
    • Paste your essay into the body of your post.
    • Make sure that you indent each paragraph again. (sometimes when you copy and paste into kidblog, you loose your indents. 
    • Publish your entry so other students can read and comment on your writing. 
    Homework: Complete the Gifts of the Nile
