Day 155: 5/23/18 - C Day: Work on Research Projects Day 1

Good day 6th Graders,      
       Today we will be start working on our research projects for the Learning Fair. We will start by looking at some videos of projects from previous years, and by looking at the projects themselves.

1. Fill out your Agenda with tonight's Homework
2. Pick up a copy of the Judges Evaluation Form from the Music Stand
Homework:
  • Finish your lit circle job for chapter 12 & 13 (Due 6/8)

Standards:
SL6.4 - Present claims & findings, sequencing ideas logically and using pertinent descriptions. facts, and details to accentuate main ideas; use appropriate eye contact, adequate volume, and clear pronunciation
SL6.5 - Include Multimedia components (graphics, images etc) and visual displays in presentations to clarify information
RI6.7 - Integrate information presented in different media or formats, as well as in words to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue
RI 6.8 - Trace & evaluate arguments and claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by evidence from claims that are not
W6.2 - Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content
W6.7 - Conduct short research projects to answer a question, drawing on several sources and refocusing the inquiry when appropriate
W6.8 Gather relevant information from multiple digital and print sources; assess the credibility of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and providing basic bibliographic information for sources

      • Problem & Solution
      • Causes & Effects
      • Pros & Cons
    • Images w/captions
    • Graphics like: Charts, Graphs, & Diagrams
    • Information - Use the paragraphs from your essay
    • Enlarge them and use backing paper to make them stand out.
    • You might want to create a list of bullets to display your information
    • Work on making printed materials for your research project.
      That may include:
      • Headings (large, Bold, Various Fonts)
      • Subheadings (Large, Bold, Various Fonts)
      • Enlarging paragraphs
      • Making bulleted lists
      • Printing picture, images, graphs, & diagrams

Guided Reading Book Clubs
Goal:
To read fictional texts for enjoyment and discuss them with a group of our peers in order to improve our comprehension.

Standards:
RL6.1 - Cite Textual Evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text
RL6.3 - Describe how a particular story's plot unfolds in a series of events as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution

Reading Strategies: 
  • Inferencing, Questioning, Predicting 
    Literary Elements:
    • Characterization, Plot, & Conflict
    Key Questions:
    • What types of Conflicts can you identify?
    • What important plot events help to push the story forward?
    • What inferences can you make?
