Day 145: 5/8/18 - A Day: Drafting the Solutions & Conclusion

Good day 6th Graders,      
        Today we will finish drafting our research essays.
                        Thank you,
                        Mr. Trumble
Schedule:
9:00 - 12:45     Math Test
12:45 - 1:15     Lunch
1:15 - 2:35       ELA Research Essay or Outside
2:35 - 3:15       Special Area

3:15 - 3:25       Dismissal

Do Now: 
1. Pick up any work you have in your research folders & take out your rough drafts of your research essay
2. Write down your homework

Homework:
  • Finish drafting the Solutions & Conclusion paragraphs of your research essay
  • Make sure your lit circle job is done for tomorrow Including the Reading of Chapter 7

The Solutions & The Conclusion

Standards:
RI6.7 - Integrate information presented in different media or formats to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.
RI6.8 - Trace & Evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by evidence from claims that are not.
W6.2 - Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content

Your Task - (You Do)
  • Use the outline to help you draft the Solutions & Conclusion paragraphs of your research essay.
  • You may skip lines if you want, but you don't have to.
  • Don't forget to include linking words and phrases. (**Pass out linking words & phrases worksheet)
  • Be sure to include your sources



*In case you were wondering what you should be doing...

*If you happen to finish writing the Solutions & Conclusion paragraphs of your essay you may start revising & editing.

Guided Reading Book Clubs
Goal:
To read fictional texts for enjoyment and discuss them with a group of our peers in order to improve our comprehension.

Standards:
RL6.1 - Cite Textual Evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text
RL6.3 - Describe how a particular story's plot unfolds in a series of events as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution

Reading Strategies: 
  • Inferencing, Questioning, Predicting 
    Literary Elements:
    • Characterization, Plot, & Conflict
    Key Questions:
    • What types of Conflicts can you identify?
    • What important plot events help to push the story forward?
    • What inferences can you make?
    • What question(s) do you have about today's reading?
    Exit Ticket:
    • Write an inference about today's reading.
    • Write 1 - 2 questions that you can use as part of your small group discussion.
