Day #87 - 1/28/15 - Mod 2A Unit 1 Lesson 5: Ch 1-4 Review

Good Morning 6th Graders,
           I hope you all had a wonderful evening! Mrs. Sargent and I are very proud of the work you are ALL doing so far with Bud, Not Buddy. We believe in you, and care about your success in school very much.  We want you to care about your own education and learning as much as we do.       
          Today is a ‘C’ day, so we will go to Library and Technology. We will be also reviewing chapters 1 - 4  of Bud, Not Buddy before we go on to read aloud chapter 5. That means tomorrow we will take our Mid-module assessment on Figurative Language in chapter 5Make sure you sharpen your pencils and order your lunch. Then, pick up an Ipad and work on the Point to Ponder.

  1. I can explain how the author’s word choice affects meaning and tone in the novel.
  2. I can determine the meaning of figurative language in Bud, Not Buddy.

Activity #1
Review Chapters 1 - 4
Directions:
Work with a partner to answer questions 1 - 20. 
***Answers do not need to be written in complete sentences, but they must be written neatly and spelled correctly.




















Activity #2

Read aloud Chapter 5
As we read we will be:
  1. recording unfamiliar words in our word catcher
  2. Paying attention to Figurative Language

Homework: 
Read chapter 6 of Bud, Not Buddy.
Answer:
Why do you think the character known as “Poppa” reached out and grabbed Bud at the mission? Explain your thinking, and use evidence from the text.

Paragraph 1
1. Tell me the title and author 
2. Write the Gist
3. Write a brief summary

Paragraph 2
4. Describe the main character (What type of person is the main character?)
5. Make an Inference about the main character. Use evidence from the text to support your inference. 

Paragraph 3
6. Write a prediction about what you think might happen in the rest of the book.
7. Finish with a question or something that you wonder.
