Homework:
- Read Chapter 10
- Complete the summarizing graphic organizer. Include 2-3 questions
- Work on Enrichment Project (Due 1/26)
Activity #1
Sharing Frayer (Vocabulary) Models
Goal:
For this activity it is your job to teach your vocabulary word to a small group of your peers well enough so you can get several students to use it correctly in a sentence of their own. You will be split up into 3 groups. (Make 3 groups using sticks)
How to Present:
You will stand up and play the role of the teacher.
Be sure to include:
1 - the word (including the page number)
2 - the sentence from the text
3 - the definition including the part of speech
4 - any synonyms or examples
5 - any antonyms or opposites
6 - an explanation of your illustration
7 - finish by asking if anyone has questions about your word, and if someone in your group can use your word in a sentence
8 - Once you have shared you can put your Frayer model in the red bin. Tomorrow we will hang your Frayer model on your locker.
Here is an example of a script you could use when you share.
1. Hello, the word I am going to teach you is __________ .
2. Here is the sentence from the text: "__________________ ."
3. (Your word) is a (What part of speech?) The definition is _____________________________ .
4. Some synonyms of (your word) are __________________ .
5. Some antonyms of (your word) are __________________ .
6. My illustration is __________________________ .
7. Does anyone have a question about my word, or Frayer model?
Does anyone think they can use __________ in a sentence?
Tips:
- Make sure you hold your model up so the other students can see it
- Speak loud and clear.
- Speak slowly. Do not talk too quickly or quietly.
- Pause between each section
- Ask if anyone has questions when you are done
- Don't forget to ask if anyone can use your word in a sentence of their own

Directions: Today you will buddy read chapter 10
List 5 events that happened in chapter 10 in the order that they happened.
Be sure to write them in your own words.
Be sure to write in complete sentences.
- As we read I want you to underline any new, challenging, or unfamiliar words.
- On the back of your graphic organizer write as many level 2 & 3 questions as you can.
