Day 91: 2/3/20 - C Day: Mix & Mingle, Summarizing Plot & Harry Potter Ch. 6

Good day 6th Graders,      

       This week we will continue unit 3, Critical Analysis & Evaluation of Fictional Texts by reading Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets.

Do Now: 

1. Find your Hogwarts House Table and have a seat

2. Write your homework down in your agenda
3. Take out your homework
4. Pick up a Book Order from the tall table

Homework:

• Finish Reading Ch 6
• Complete a Note Taking Strategy of your choice

Activity #1

Mix & Mingle

Directions: 

• We will do 5 rounds
• Each round you will have an opportunity to review your answers and make and make any improvements you would need.
• At the end of Mix & Mingle you will be handing in your work for a HW grade.

Activity #2

Summarizing Plot 

&

 The 60 second Summary Challenge

Directions:

In your notebook you will write a summary of the events in chapter chapter 5. Your summaries should include the main idea, & the most important details from the chapter.

You will then choose 1 person to read theirs out loud as part of the 60 second summary challenge. The winning house will receive points for their house!

Activity #3

Read aloud Ch. 6

Directions:

Use a note taking strategy of your choice

***Tip - You will be competing in the 50 second summary challenge tomorrow, so choose a note-taking strategy that you think will help you in the competition.

Guided Reading Book Clubs

Goal: To read fictional texts for enjoyment and discuss them with a group of our peers in order to improve our comprehension .

Standards:

RL6.1 - Cite Textual Evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text

RL6.3 - Describe how a particular story's plot unfolds in a series of events as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution

• What do you know about the main character? How? 
• What Predictions can you make?
• What Inferences did you make based on today's reading?
