          Good Morning, I hope you are all having a totally terrific Tuesday. Please use this time to get ready for your day.

Do Now:

  1. Check that your homework is done
  2. Check to see if you have all your materials
  3. Sharpen pencils
ELA:

Good Day 6th Graders,

          Today we will start unit 2 by reading a short article about youtube.

Do Now:

  • Write tonight's homework in your agenda
  • Get a yellow, pink, orange & blue highlighter
  • Grab a copy of the youtube article, and a copy of the vocabulary sheet
  • Open your Notebook to Unit 2
Homework:
  • Read for 20 minutes
  • Be prepared to answer these questions tomorrow: What are you reading? What's it about? What do you like about it?

Informational Text Vocabulary

Analyzing Details to Determine the Main Idea
  • RI6.1 Cite textual evidence to support what the text says as well as inferences made from the text
  • RI6.2 Determine the main idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details

Step 1: Color Code
Topic = Yellow
Topic Sentence = Pink
Main Idea = Blue
Supporting Details = Orange

Step 2: Read the article: 
  • Highlight the Topic, Yellow. Think "What important word was repeated?" Every Time you see the 'topic' word, highlight it yellow.
  • Draw a box around the introduction. 
  • Highlight the topic Sentence Pink 
  • Highlight the details orange. Number them.
  • Write the main idea in a "Thought Bubble
