Day #165 - 6/9/15 - Unit 4 Chapter 18 & Procedural Essays/Demonstrations

Good Morning Rebels, 
         Today is an ‘A’ day so we will go to Music. We will break up into groups to read aloud chapter 18 of Frightful's Mountain. Then, we'll continue working on our “How to” writing pieces and watching the movie Food, Inc. Please clean your locker and organize your binders and folders, then order your lunch, sharpen your pencils, and work on the Point to Ponder.

1.Pick up a Trivia Card and take turns asking and answering questions with people at your table.


Activity #1
Procedural Essay
Directions:
  • Step 1 - Choose a “How to” topic
  • Step 2 - Create a list of materials/ingredients you will need
  • Step 3 - Draft a bulleted list of steps you will follow to demo your “How to” presentation. Be sure your list is detailed enough for anyone to be able to do your “How to”. 
  • Step 4 - Share your Planning Page with a Writing Partner. 
Provide feedback regarding the procedure.
1. Is there anything you are confused about?
2. Do the steps make sense?
3. Is everything spelled correctly? 
4. Are there any ingredients or materials missing?

Complete your Lit Circle Job as we read aloud

Activity #3
Documentary: Food, Inc. 
Continue tracing how an investigative reporter presents:
1. a research question
2. a thesis
3. supporting facts and evidence
4. a recommendation

What is the book mostly about? (the gist)
What do you like about your book?
How would you rate your book?
Who would you recommend it to?

Homework:
1. Finish reading Chapter 18 & complete your Lit Circle Job - Due Wednesday 6/10/15
2. Bring in Materials for your "How to" Demo
