Day 4: 9/9/16 - How to choose a Good Fit Book & Intro to Independent Reading

Good Morning 6th Graders,
          Today is a 'D' Day. Please be sure to sharpen your pencils and order your lunch.  Next work on the learning style questionnaire. We will be discussing your results and what they mean. Lastly, you may quietly read at your seat.

Independent Reading
Today we will start to build our reading stamina by reading for a total of 10 minutes. While you read I want you to try and identify the theme of your book.
  • use sticky notes to annotate your book. 
  • Annotate = to take notes
  •  Notes should be about Theme

Before Reading:
  • Create Independent Reading I-Chart
After Reading:
  • What is the title of your book?
  • Is your book a good fit for you?
  • Who are the main characters?
  • What is the setting?
  • What is one theme you have identified.
  • How do you know? (What is your evidence?)

Activity #2
Who are You?

Homework:
  • Read for 20 - 30 minutes from an independent reading book that is a good fit for you.
  • Complete the "Who Are You" Shield

      RTI/Enrichment Time 
      Finish Anchor Charts for Rules

    Be Respectful            Be Responsible

    Show Integrity
    1. What does responsibility look like at home, at school, with your homework, with your teachers, with your self?

    2. What does respect look like at home, at school, with your homework, with your teachers, with your self?

    3. How can you show integrity? What does Integrity mean? What does integrity look like?

      Directions:

      • Work with your group members to discuss the assigned rule or character trait.
      • Then create a poster or display of what your group discussed.
      • Be sure to include details for your rule or character trait.
      • Your poster should have large print and detailed pictures.
      • Choose a spokesperson to share the information.
