For Unit 2 Lesson 3 Part III

  • I can collaborate with my peers to determine themes in the myth of Cronus.
  • I can explain how a theme in Cronus is connected to a theme in The Lightning Thief.
Activity #1
Add the word 'Theme' to your Word Catcher.
Key Questions:
Who has heard of this word before?
What is the meaning of the word 'theme'?

A theme is a significant idea or lesson conveyed in the text. Theme is an important message the author conveys through the details or events.
  • Parent-Child Relationships
  • A mother will put her love for her children above every other relationship.
What do you notice between the first statement and the second?

The 1st is an example of a topic.
The 2nd is an example of a thematic statement.
  •  A thematic statement is expressed as a complete idea.
  • It answers the question: What idea or lesson does the story convey about the topic?
Triad Envelope Activity
  • Each envelope has 11 slips inside.
  • Pull out a slip one person at a time.
  • Read the slip out loud to your Triad Group
