Point to Ponder: 
1. Take out your homework and share your Summaries from chapter 6 with the people at your table group. 
2. Trivia Tuesday - Pick up a trivia card and take turns asking and answering questions with the people at your table. 

Learning Stations

#1 Guided Reading (We do)
Using Cornell Notes to align the main character from your guided reading book with the hero's journey.
  • Write an essential question
  • Use the depth of knowledge stems to write a level 1, 2, & 3 question about today's reading.
  • What events in today's reading align with the hero's journey, and which part of the hero's journey?
    #2 Independent Reading (You do)
    • Read: Finish reading the assigned pages 
    • Build Vocabulary: Add words from your Guided Reading book to your list of vocabulary words
    • Finish the Cornell notes, including a summary of your reading

    • Use your World Textbook
    • On loose leaf paper, Complete the Thinking about vocabulary #1-10 in the Chapter 3 Review on Page 60

      Learning Stations

      Activity #1: Guided Reading Posters
      Act 1 Stage 1 - The Ordinary World

      Work with the students in your guided reading group to create a poster answering the following question.

      How does the main Character from your guided reading book not fit in to their ordinary world?

      Begin by brainstorming all the ways your character doesn't fit in with their ordinary world.
      Loot - March
      Taken - Charity
      Tangerine - Paul
      London Calling - Martin
      1. ____Include the Name of stage for the Hero's Journey -"The Ordinary World"
      2. ____Include your characters name, and evidence from the text on your poster.
      3. ____Use complete sentences or bullets to write out the details.
      4. ____Include illustrations with labels.
      5. Write in LARGE PRINT
      6. Everything should be written neatly, and spelled correctly.
      Get Creative and have fun illustrating this stage of the hero'r journey. You want want to illustrate a few of the scenes from the book to show how your character doesn't fit in.

        #2 Pit Ponies
        Step 1: Read the Poem "Pit Ponies to yourself
        Step 2: Complete questions 8 - 14 independently
        Step 3: Find a friend who you can share your responses with. If you have different answers, discuss the question and try to come to an agreement about the correct answer. 
        Step 4: Be prepared to discuss your responses with your table group, and then as a whole group.

        Reading Strategy: Tracing Plot through the Hero's Journey


        The Hero's Journey
        • The Hero’s Journey is a pattern of narrative writing identified by the American scholar Joseph Campbell. 
        • The pattern of the Heros Journey appears in novels, dramas, myths, movies, and storytelling. 
        • It describes the typical adventure of the archetype known as The Hero.
        • The Hero is the person who goes out and achieves great deeds on behalf of the group, tribe, or civilization.

        KeyQuestions
        1. How is life with the Weasley's different from life on Privet Drive with the Dursley's?
        2. The Hero's Journey continues for Harry. How has he continued to "Enter the Unknown" in chapter 4? What are the things that are NEW to Harry?
