Make sure that you have your Agenda and your ELA Folder. Then pick up a "Theme Tree" from the music stand and glue it into your notebook. Date your notebook page 10/12, and give it the title, "Practice Identifying Theme".

Essential Question: What inferences can you make about Max, Kevin, plot events, and the conflicts in Chapter 16?

- Pg 103 - How does the narrators word choice and description of Christmas Eve on page 103 affect the mood and tone?
- Pgs 104 - 106 What kind of picture does the narrator create of Christmas Eve? Can you describe the people in this scene? How does the narrator describe them? What inference can you make at this point in the text?
- Pg 107 - How would you react to the events of the evening?

Identifying Point of View
- RL6.6 Explain how the author develops the point of view of the narrator in a text
What do you see in this image?
- Point of View: The perspective of the person telling the story
- Answers the Question: Who is telling the story? Who is the narrator?
First Person - Told from the viewpoint of one of the characters using the pronouns "I" and "we"
Third Person: Limited - The narrator is an outside observer that is limited to knowing the thoughts and feelings of only one Character
Third Person: Omniscient - The narrator is an outside observer who can tell the reader the thoughts & feelings of ALL the characters
Third Person: Objective - The narrator reports the facts of the story as a neutral and impersonal outside observer

- What point of view does the author use to tell the story of Freak the Mighty?
- How do you know?

Read Chapter 17 & 18. Complete Cornell notes. Include:
- 6 - 8 annotations
- 3 - 4 questions using DOK Stems (Depth of Knowledge)
- Include a level 1, 2, & 3 Question
- and a summary
