Day 23: 10/6/16 - Novel/Movie Analysis & Freak the Mighty Ch 15 & 16

         Today is a 'C' Day.  We will be going to the High School to see a Syracuse Stage Performance right away this morning.
ELA,
          Make sure that you have your Agenda and your Freak the Mighty Book. Then share your Graphic Organizer comparing the movie and novel with the people at your table.

Movie Review: Whole Group
  • RL6.7 Compare and Contrast the experience of reading a story to viewing a video of the story, including information about what you 'see' when watching the movie to what you perceive when reading the text.

  1. What are the similarities between the movie and the novel?
  2. What are the differences between the movie and the novel?
  3. Do you like the way the movie told the story, or do you prefer the book? Why?
* How could you organize your mini-essay to write about the similarities and differences?

Small Group

Directions:
  • Use your Cornell Notes to discuss the events in ch. 13 & 14. 
  • Then discuss in detail your assigned Questions. 
  • Pick a scribe to write notes, ideas, and talking points
  • Choose a spokesperson to act as your groups leader for our whole group conversation. 
***I will be collecting your Cornell notes to read your summaries to see how well you understood the reading and to see how strong your inferences are.

  5. Pg 103 - How does the narrators word choice and description of Christmas Eve on page 103 affect the mood and tone?
  6. Pgs 104 - 106 How does the point of view influence the readers experiences as Max describes his Christmas Eve with his father? What kind of picture does the narrator create? Can you describe the people in this scene? How does the narrator describe them? How does this affect you as the reader?
  7.  Pg 107 - How would you react to the events of the evening?
