Today is a 'D' Day. Please remember to order your lunch and sharpen your pencils.
Make sure that you have your Agenda and your Freak the Mighty Book. Then hand in your mini-essay comparing the movie and the novel. We will be using them tomorrow on writing day. Last, take out your Cornell notes and review your inferences for chapters 13 - 15.

How to Find Theme
- RL6.2 Determine a theme and explain how it is conveyed through specific details. Include a summary of the text.
10/11 Theme
Theme = The Central Idea, Topic, Subject or point of a story
- Expressed in a statement that described the moral of the story, or the life lesson.
- the message to the reader
- an idea you can apply to your own life
- is bigger than the characters in the story
(Glue in list of thematic topics)
These Topics help you identify the theme
#1 What are some of the important topics for theme in Freak the Mighty?
#2 What is the author trying to say about these topics? What is the message, or life lesson, that you can apply to your own life?
Work with a partner. (turn and talk)
Then, in your ELA notebooks create a T-chart of possible thematic Topics. Include evidence to support your thinking.
Homework - Due Thursday 10/13
- RL6.1 Making Inferences and supporting your analysis with evidence
- RL6.3 Describe how the plot unfolds in a series of events
Read Chapter 16. Complete Cornell notes. Include:
- 5 - 6 annotations
- 3 - 4 questions using DOK Stems (Depth of Knowledge)
- Include a level 1, 2, & 3 Question
- and a summary
