I hope you are all having a terrific Tuesday morning. Today is a ‘D’ day so we will go to Gym. Please sharpen you pencils and order your lunch. - I can engage in a discussion about stanza #4 in order to record the rules to live by suggested by Kipling.
- I can record unfamiliar vocabulary using my Word Catcher Graphic Organizer.
- I can respond in writing to text dependent questions using complete sentences with details.
What are the rules that are suggested in stanza 4?
Directions:
- Work with your small group members to write down as many of the rules from stanza 4 that you can.
- Choose one person to be the Scribe.
- You will need to have a discussion about what you think each line means.
- Use the dictionary to help you with unfamiliar words. http://www.wordcentral.com/
- Write the rules on a piece of scrap paper.
- Maintain control even when others are losing control.
- Trust yourself even when others are doubting you.
- Don’t hold a grudge against other people when they doubt you.
- Don’t make time for lies .
- Don’t lie or listen to other people’s lies about you.
- Don’t hate people or worry about people who hate you.
- Don’t boast or brag about yourself too much: control your ego.
- Don’t let others lead you off your path.
Stanza #2
- Have goals for your life but don’t let your goals control you.
- You should think carefully about things, but it’s not enough to just think, you must go beyond your thoughts to actions.
- Don’t let winning and losing change who you are.
- Be mindful of what you say. Some people might try to call you a liar or turn your words into lies.
- When you lose something you care strongly about or that you have worked for your whole life, you need to start over.
Stanza #3
- Don’t be afraid to risk everything.
- Don’t complain about your losses, simply start over.
- Sometimes you’ll want to quit, but you must make yourself “Hold on” till things get better.
Stanza #4
- Don’t lower yourself to other people’s standards.
- Don’t let success go to your head & change who you are.
- Don’t let other people hurt you.
- All people are meaningful and important, but don’t put them in front of yourself.
- Make the most out of every minute.
- If you can do all these things, you can do anything you want in the world.
- Most importantly, if you can do all these things you will no longer be a boy, or a child, you will be a man!
