Day 151: 5/21/25 - Research Stage 4: Day #6

 Homeroom:

          Good Morning. Please use this time to get ready for your day.

Do Now:

  1. Check that your homework is done
  2. Make sure you have all your materials
  3. Sharpen pencils

Today we will continue stage 4 of research.

Do Now: 
1. Write down your homework
2. Go to page 78 and check off today's date
3. Put your materials on your chair, push it in, and get to work

Research Stage 4

Stage 1: Finding Resources
  1. Use our online databases to find, save, and print at least 2 - 3 articles 
  2. Use the internet to find and bookmark 2 - 3 Web Pages
  3. Use the cart to find books on your topic
You want the resources to discuss: 
  • the Problem/Issue
  • the Causes, or Pro's
  • the Effects, or Con's
  • the Solutions

Stage 2: Gathering Information 
  • Read each article, website, or book & use one graphic organizer for each one. Be sure to record all the important information from your resources onto the "Gathering Info" graphic organizer, including:
- Title of the article
- Name of the resource, or Web page
- Important Info

Stage 3: Outlining & Organizing Information

Now that you have gathered information it is time to organize it to make it easier to put together your Learning Fair Presentation.

Your Goal:
Take all of the information you gathered and organize it according to:
  • Problem/Issue
  • Causes (or Pro's)
  • Effects (or Cons)
  • Solutions 
Steps:
  • Begin with 1 article at a time
  • Read each piece of information you gathered
  • Write it in the appropriate category
  • Repeat
  • You should be able to explain each of these categories in your own words
  • You should also be able to explain why you care about your topic, or why the topic is important

  • Work on Tri-Fold Board
    • Planning (White Paper)
    • Heading (Largest & Boldest)
    • Sub-headings (Large & Bold)
      • Definition
      • Problem & Solution

    • Use the Decorative tape to create sections
    • Create Bulleted Lists of Information
      • Can be typed & printed
      • Can be handwritten
      • make them big, bold, & colorful

Today we will take our spring STAR assessment, and then continue stage 4 of research.

Do Now: 
1. Write down your homework
2. Open your chromebook and go to the clever dashboard

STAR Reading Assessment

Tips to do your best

  • Take your Time
  • Read carefully
  • Reread when needed
  • Read ALL answers before choosing one
  • Use process of elimination
  • DO NOT RUSH!!!!
To get to the STAR Online Assessment:
  • Go to Clever and locate the Renaissance (Pink R) Icon.
  • Click on it 
  • Wait for further directions
Once you are logged into STAR:
  • Click on Take a Reading Test
  • Make sure you select ELA Mr. Trumble
  • ***If your computer asks for the monitor password, it is "admin"
When you finish:
  • Take out your independent reading book and read quietly at your seat
IMPORTANT:
The room should remain silent and you should remain in your seats unless it is an emergency. If you do not finish your STAR test make sure I know, so we can pause your test and have you finish during WIN.
