Part 1: 10 - 15 minutes (You do)

• In small groups share what you noticed and what you wondered about in Stanza 3 & 4. Take time to discuss what you wondered.
• Then share the rules that you paraphrased in Stanza 3 & 4. There are a total of 3 rules to live by in stanza 3, and 5 rules in stanza 4.
• You should analyze, evaluate, and reflect on what you wrote. You may change your responses, add to your responses, and edit what you wrote. Be prepared to share with the whole group.

SO FAR....Kipling has given the reader the "If" part of an 'If, then' Statement. Everything he has said is about the things he wants his son to be able to do. In stanza 4 he finishes the poem by telling his son what his reward will be, (or the 'then' part) if he can do all the things listed in the first 3 stanzas.

What were the rules in the first 3 stanzas?

• What rules does Kipling give you in stanza 4?
• Work in a small group to paraphrase each line. 
• What will be the son's reward for doing all these things?

• Enjoy your weekend and read a good book for at least 20 minutes each day.
