Good Morning Rebels,
Today is an A day so we will go to Gym. We will look at examples of paragraphs for research essays, participate in literature circle discussions, and work on our Learning Fair projects. After you order your lunch and sharpen your pencils, please work on the Point to Ponder.
Thank you
P2P: Think about your research topic. What would you say to people who think differently than you? What would you recommend I do in regards to your topic? Make a list of recommendations.
Activity #1
9:00 - 9:20
12:30 - 12:50
Look at exemplars for editing and revising on Tuesday 5/24
Key Questions:
- How do you address the people that think differently than you? What do you say to the people with opposing viewpoints?
- How do you write a conclusion?
Example for the following thesis:
Eating Organic food is better for you than eating traditionally grown food that uses pesticides and chemicals or Genetically modified Organisms.
Eating Organic food is better for you than eating traditionally grown food that uses pesticides and chemicals or Genetically modified Organisms.
Example of Paragraph addressing people who think differently
I know that many people don't mind eating GMO's, and don't believe eating organic food has any benefits. Many people trust that the food they are buying that is grown using pesticides and chemicals is perfectly safe. Through my research I have discovered that there is in fact many benefits to eating organic food and we should avoid eating genetically modified foods treated with chemicals and pesticides. According to my research the chemical aspartame can cause seizures and brain tumors. Eating GMO's has been linked to infertility and high infant mortality rates. In addition, many of the allergies that children develop may be linked to the chemicals and pesticides that food manufactures put in their products. On the contrary, there are greater antioxident values in organic foods, which helps to keep you healthy. Similarly, organic foods have been proven to be more nutritionally dense than non-organic foods, meaning that you can get more nutrition out of eating an organic apple as opposed to a non-organic apple. In my opinion the people that believe that there are no benefits to eating organic food are simply wrong.
Example of Conclusion
Example of Conclusion
It is my belief that eating organic food is healthier than eating non-organic and genetically modified foods. The environmental reasons for eating organic foods are great, but the health reasons are even greater. I recommend that when you go to the supermarket you should look for organic food options. I further suggest buying foods that are GMO free. Try going to your local farmers market. I hope that you will give organic foods a try.
