Good Morning Sixth Graders,
          Today is a B day so we will go to Art. We will also go to the lab to start researching and tracing arguments for both sides of our environmental issue. We will learn about education in ancient Greece.

Activity #1

Writing Key Words and Questions to help you through your research

Once your Thesis Statement and Research Question has been written you can begin generating a list of Key Words and Questions you will use to gather information throughout the research process!

Develop a list of keywords & Key questions to search

Example:
key words
Nuclear energy, solar energy, wind energy, alternative energy, nuclear power plants, pros and cons of nuclear energy, for kids

Questions:
  • What is nuclear energy?
  • What is good about nuclear energy? How does nuclear energy help people?
  • What is bad about nuclear energy? How is nuclear energy harmful to the environment?
  • What happens when there is an accident at a nuclear power plant?
  • If I want to have a career as a nuclear engineer what exactly does the job entail?
  • Where does my energy and electricity in my own house come from? What kind of power plant is in my own community?

Research - Tracing an argument
Directions: 
  • Use the graphic organizer below to begin tracing the arguments about the environmental issue that you have selected to research.
  • You will use one graphic organizer for each resource.
  • Be sure to record the:
    • Title of the article
    • Name of the resource:
    • Important Information
    • Author's argument & Claim
    • Author's evidence
  • Be sure to evaluate the source at the bottom of each graphic organizer.
