Day #59 - 12/3/14 - Unit 2: Lesson 10 Part I

Good Morning 6th Graders,
      Let’s make today a wonderful Wednesday!!! It is a ‘D’ day so we will go to Physical Education. Please be sure that you have your gym clothes and deodorant. Last, work on the Point to Ponder.

  1. I can use a model text to guide my writing of an analytical mini-essay.
  2. I can use the writing process, and the support of my teacher and peers to plan and draft my analytical mini-essay about Prometheus.
  3. I can write clearly about the elements of mythology, and the theme in the myth of prometheus.
  4. I can support my thinking with details from the text.

    Finish the theme Graphic organizer
    Make sure you have selected the theme you think is the strongest!

    ACTIVITY #2 
    Independent Writing

    Review the structure of the sample mini-essay. This can be found in your Reading Strategies Section of your notebook.


    Introduction
    Body Paragraph 1 - Elements of mythology
    Body Paragraph 2 - theme
    Conclusion
    • What is the first sentence of each paragraph?
    • Where is the evidence?
    • What is the author’s thinking?

    Directions: Work independently to transform the information on your graphic organizers into your own mini-essay. Use the model essay to help you. Be sure you write the strongest paragraphs that you can. Please stay focused and work hard. 

    Write your essay in this order:
    • write the 1st body paragraph
    • write the 2nd body paragraph
    • write an introduction that introduces the body paragraphs
    • write a conclusion that explains how an element of mythology connects to a theme of the myth.
























































    HOMEWORK: 
    Read 20 minutes from your independent reading book 
    & complete book notes about the gist.

    Write down the final jeopardy question/answer.

    Paragraph 1
    1. Tell me the title and author 
    2. Write the Gist
    3. Write a brief summary

    4. Describe the main character (What type of person is the main character?)
    5. Make an Inference about the main character. Use evidence from the text to support your inference. 

    Paragraph 3
    6. Write a prediction about what you think might happen in the rest of the book.
    7. Finish with a question or something that you wonder.
