Day 26: 10/26/20 - Freak the Mighty Ch. 23 - 25

Good Morning 6th Graders,

          Please make sure you have everything you need for your classes. Today we will finish Freak the Mighty and we will continue to analyze the story.

Do Now:

• Write tonight's homework in your agenda
• Log in to your Chromebook & go to our blog
• Open up kidblog and pull up your question from chapter 21 & 22
• Take out your signed grade reports so I can collect them 

Homework:

• Read Chapter 23 - 25 & complete the reading guide
• Complete the Chapter 23 - 25 Quiz on Google classroom
• Blog - Write a Question & Answer 2-3 Questions

Activity #1

Analysis of Ch. 21 & 22 using 

the Reading Strategy of Questioning

Standards:

RL6.1 - Making Inferences and using evidence to support your thinking

RL6.3 - Describe how a story, or plot, unfolds in a series of events, including how the characters respond or change

D.O.K. Questions

Level 1 - Has only 1 correct answer, and the answer can be found in the book.

Level 2 - Has an infinite number of answers, and it puts you in the book and asks you what you think the characters should do, think, feel, etc. or what you would do, think, feel. etc. 

In a level two question we are talking about the book, it's characters, setting, plot, etc, and putting ourselves in the book

Level 3 - Has an infinite number of answers, and it pulls something that happens in the book, and asks you to apply it to your own life?

In a level 3 question we are no longer talking about the book or the characters. We leave the book behind and talk about situations from our own lives, that are similar to those in the book?

Level 4 - Requires research & additional resources to dig deep into a question.

1. What happened to Killer Kane?
2. How were Max & Kevin treated differently at school after Christmas Break?
3. What happened to Kevin on his birthday? How do you feel about that?

Freak the Mighty: Chapter 23 - 25

Directions:

• Read chapter 23 - 25.
• Complete the Reading Guide (Can use the paper copy, or the google form in the assignment section of google classroom)
• Take the quiz on google classroom. Be sure to answer in complete sentences when needed.
• Post your level 2 or level 3 question, & answer 2 - 3 questions from your peers.

Key Questions:

Ch. 23 - 25 

1. What happens to Kevin?

2. Do you think it's fair? Is life fair?

3. Can you describe Max's reaction"

4. How would you react if you were Max?

5. Have you ever lost anyone that you were close too? If so, who? And how did it impact you?

6. How does Max deal with what happens to Kevin?

7. Who convinces him to write the story of Freak the mighty?

8. Think about Max's story. Now that you know Max actually saw his father kill his mother, many of the things that we learned about him early on in the story make sense, don't they?
